Visit Strafford and canary wharf and take a series of photographs that can be compared to your newyork images and then in turn can be aged and placed alongside them in a series. Look at modern structures and shapes as an interesting comparison.

Not clear about the subject matter. When your project is led by process this can be difficult to get right. Buildings have a strong structure so it makes sense but look again at the photographers you have included in your Curatorship Task- what subject matter do they use?
Look at this website: http://coolgirlsshootfilm.tumblr.com/tagged/experiment and try some of the processes.

SO far you have considered alternative process using a camera obscura and also a cyanotype however there is not really a focus or idea behind the work. It is important that we think of a theme or a structure to the work
Look at the work of BARBARA CIUREJ & LINDSAY LOCHMAN and their natural history series. Take a pack of cyanotype paper and create a series of cyanotype natural photograms. Experiment with different natural forms and objects this could then form the basis of a portraits that could be taken next week in the studio.

Explore building up different skylines. The shapes that are created could be blocked in.
Skylines could build up until the original photo is lost.
Lines can be in different colours or a limited palette.
Photograph- more skylines and more natural environments to be bale to experiment with the best possible combination.
Perhaps build up into a GIf

- Geometric shapes in nature. Bubbles create geometric shapes where they join. Alter these using Adjustments> Threshold. This will simplify the images. Superimpose these over images of buildings (?)
- Typology: small parts of buildings abstracted. Michael Penn. Super impose them on a colour background.
- Average blur photos of buildings but insert bright colours.

Explore piecing the different images together in a row (like SImoes) and/or creating a cylinder. Create an A5 maquette.
Make a few cylinders and hang them at eye level- maybe allow them to spin.

Three strands need an artist. 1: Abstract Portraits needs to be MORE abstract. The make up isn't enough. You could develop this in two ways: Dissect the face: create a joiner or look at the work of Manny Robertson (pictured), Gaby Trinkaus or Annegret Soltau , Maurizio Anzeri. Alternatively continue with face painting but this never really goes well in my experience and would need to be far more extreme. 2: Look at the f64 group, in particular Imogen Cunningham and Edward Weston. You could also look at the photography of Karl Blossfeldt. 3: Look at the close up details of decay by Colin Winterbottom. Once you have completed all the annotation and photographer links for your 3 strands you need to choose one to develop further. |
